Expectation: Expecting the best is the utmost respect.
Each day our class begins with an affirmation; not only an affirmation of what's expected of students, but an affirmation that binds also the expectations of all adults in the classroom:
"Honor your self and everyone else."
"Be truthful in all words and deeds."
"Handle your possessions only."
"Do what's expected, when expected."
"Use no profanity or offensive language."
As we all abide by these expectations on our conduct and effort we all can strive to accomplish all goals we set for ourselves.

"Why All This Homework?"
While most students have been responsible completing their assignments, our block schedule coupled with weekends means many students go too many days without doing math. Students are forgetting what they're doing thus not learning, and the best way to retain what you've learned is to practice it daily.
In the future, for example, Periods 1-3-5 will get multiple ALEKS assignments on Monday; one must be completed by Tuesday, and the next by Wednesday. This will expect students to do math "every single day..", thus improve their retention and thus improve their learning.

Car Analysis Notes:
- Your graphs should employ data from all the cars, not just those in your period.
- Executive Editor: make sure each task is identified clearly in either the Google Document or the Google sheet.
- For the analysis questions you should be employing your C.E.R.C.A & T.I.E.A.C. procedures, which means as a minimum you should be writing on paragraph for each question, and each question should have 5-7 sentences.

Projects and Investigations(The following will appear in the 21 January 2015 Newsletter):
Please be aware of projects or investigations, their requirements and deadlines. Projects and investigations embody not only the content of a unit but encourage students to be critical, creative, and collaborative. Projects and investigations thus represent student learning greatly, and students who fail to complete them successfully do not learn as much, and impact their grade severely.
Projects that are late/do not meet the submission requirements by the deadline I shall not accept, so please encourage your child to plan accordingly when working them.

Missing Skateboard Investigation
If you've noticed a severe drop in your grade percentage is most likely is from you not submitting the Skateboard Investigation.
You can only submit it electronically per the instructions (see the Content section, Wednesday 17 Dec 14). When submitted correctly I shall remove the zeroes from your grade and grade it as the others.

All students must have loose leaf graph paper and a graph paper (quad ruled) notebook. Graph paper allows more accurate drawings and graphs; students cannot be successful without it. This has been an expectation from the beginning of the year. (see the Mathematics 'Playbook')
ANY GRADED WORK NOT DONE ON GRAPH PAPER WILL RECEIVE NO CREDIT = "F" GRADE.

The 'Playbook': The foundation of how we Educate.
All we do has a purpose; there's a procedure for all we do. The following is the opening of our class rules and procedures:
1.0 VISION
Every student shall learn and grow through the knowledge, skills, and reasoning of mathematics.
2.0 TEACHER OBLIGATION
I shall provide, to the best of my ability, the Commitment, Content, Expectations, Opportunity, and Assessment for each student to learn and grow through the knowledge, skills, and reasoning of mathematics.
3.0 EXPECTATIONS

All persons shall abide by the following class rules:
- Honor yourself and everyone else.

- Handle your possessions only.
- Do what’s expected, when expected.
- Use no profanity or offensive language.
3.2 Procedures
During class you are learning either individually, cooperatively, testing, or attending to instruction. Each activity will have unique procedures that follow these guidelines:
a. Type and volume of CONVERSATION
b. How and from whom you can get HELP
c. Description of the ACTIVITY
d. How and when students can MOVE
e. How they PARTICIPATE
f. What makes the class endeavor SUCCESSFUL
3.3 Transition and Attention
Within three (3) seconds of the sound of the designated chime, students shall 1) cease their current activity; 2) become silent; 3) attend to the teacher’s instruction.
3.4 Rewards and Consequences
3.4.1 Rewards

Participation points shall be the primary PowerTeacher measurement of students adhering to rules and procedures.
3.4.1.1. Bear Dollars

b. Seventeen (17) can be exchanged for one (1) test or quiz question.
c. Thirteen (13) can be exchanged for a homework assignment.
3.4.2 Consequences
Our sequence of consequences for students who do not adhere to rules and procedures are as CCCS consequences;
a. 1st offense: reminder, -1 points or per rule violation
b. 2nd offense: -1 point or per rule violation, silent lunch
c. 3rd offense: -1 point or per rule violation, silent lunch, Teleparent/phone call home.
d. 4th offense: -1 point or per rule violation, dismissed to Office with Referral; Teleparent/phone call home.
Each student begins each reporting period with a total of Participation points based upon the number of days in each reporting period and the total points they have each day in class. If they violate class rules and lose less than 70% of that total they will earn a 'U' on their report card for that reporting period.
